Instructions to make Imitation Ermine Drops
Materials Needed: White Rabbit fur...2" x 10" Black or dark rabbit fur 2" x 2" 2 pieces of leather lacing or thong 12" to 14" long. Needle and thread (preferably Nymo) Craft Glue From the white rabbit fur, cut 2 pieces.....1" x 10" long From the Black fur, cut it in half.
Sew the black fur into a tube, with right sides out. Attach this black tube to the end of a thong. Lay a white fur strip flat fur side down to table. Apply glue to hide side making sure you put a small line of glue on all edges and a line up the middle. Not too much glue......:) Now Place the thong (with the black fur attached ) in the middle of the white fur piece so that the black fur is just below the edge of white fur. Carefully fold the white fur over the thong. Pressing and folding the edges of fur down firmly to the thong. Continue up the thong till you have reached the end of the white fur. You should have a piece of thong extending beyond the white fur. This will be used to attach your Ermine drops to your regalia. Now, let the glue dry. Repeat for the second drop and you are done.
Ermine drops were a very popular decoration among the Northern Plains Tribes.
